If you've watched wedding videos on Instagram or TikTok recently, you've almost certainly seen this scene: a couple dancing their first dance, and suddenly, on both sides, golden sparks start "fountaining" upward — no smoke, no heat, no risk. These are cold spark effects — also known as indoor sparklers or cold spark fountains. In Greek they are called «πυροτεχνήματα εδάφους», which translates literally as ground fireworks, but they are not fireworks at all.
How they work
Unlike traditional fireworks, which use gunpowder and open flame, cold spark machines heat a special powdered material (titanium) to a very high temperature inside a sealed chamber and eject it upward as sparks. The result looks exactly like fire, but the spark itself cools so quickly that it's safe to touch by the time it reaches the ground.
Are they safe indoors?
Yes — this is exactly why cold sparks became so popular at weddings. They produce no smoke, no smell, won't trigger smoke detectors (in coordination with the venue), and leave no residue on the floor. They're suitable for both indoor halls and outdoor spaces, whatever the weather.
When couples use them
- At the couple's entrance to the reception — creating a spark "tunnel" you walk through
- During the first dance — the most popular moment, especially paired with low lighting
- At the cake cutting — smaller, more discreet machines
- At the end of the night, as a grand finale before the closing dance
Cold Sparks + Low Fog: the most popular combo
Many couples combine cold sparks with the low fog effect (dry ice fog) during the first dance: the low fog "cloud" hugs the floor, creating the feeling of "dancing on clouds", while sparks fall from above. The result is one of the most-photographed moments of any wedding.
Cold sparks aren't just an effect — they're the moment every guest reaches for their phone at the same time.
How many machines do you need
For a typical reception of 100-150 guests, 2-4 cold spark machines are enough for an impressive result without overdoing it. For larger venues or outdoor receptions, we suggest up to 6-8 machines for a more theatrical effect. See our cold spark effects packages on the Services page, with prices starting from €350.
Frequently asked questions
What are cold sparks / ground fireworks?
They are cold spark effects: an electric machine heats titanium powder and ejects sparks that look like fire but cool instantly — no flame, no heat, no smoke. They are not fireworks in the explosive sense.
Are they safe indoors?
Yes. They produce no smoke or smell, leave no residue and (in coordination with the venue for detectors) do not trigger an alarm. That is why they are used inside reception halls.
How much do they cost in Cyprus?
From €350 for 4 machines; the 6-machine package is €550. They are often combined with low fog at a package price.
How many machines do I need?
For a reception of 100-150 guests, 2-4 machines give an impressive result; for larger or outdoor venues, up to 6-8 for a more theatrical effect.
Do they need a permit?
No, because they are not an explosive product but stage-effect equipment. Unlike traditional fireworks, they do not require police approval — only coordination with the venue.
